It may not necessarily be a benefit, which is implied from the article.
Performing searches online is very much going to require more aspects of the brain neurology to be fired when compared to holding a book and reading a passage. Motor neurons, as one example, along with the thought of the search itself, which will entail a burst of data to be presented to the brain (the results), whereas the book shows the data from the outset.
Not to mention the health (predominantly eyesight) issues with regards to sitting on front of a screen reading for long periods of time.
