Game of Thrones Season 6 (spoilers allowed)

I really like the fact that it is a fantasy show, but that they don't overdo the magic component, which keeps it fresh and interesting when it does happen.  Rather instead, the focus is on the characters and their development.  In a way it like the Walking Dead in that regard, in the sense that even though it is a show about zombies, it isn't REALLY about the zombies, its about the people and their relationships.  
My only complaint is the cliff hangers.  Though the cliff hangers in this first episode of GoT's new season wasn't too bad.  I wasn't going through psychological withdrawal after I watched it.  

I was a little annoyed because I accidentally downloaded a russian subbed episode and this particular episode had a lot of foreign speak, so I had to watch another version again today to see the correct subtitles so I know what the hell was going on.

Back when the series first came out, I got half way through the second season and decided it was too violent and depressing, so I quit watching it for a couple years. I eventually gave it a second chance and caught up with the series. I'm really enjoying it now.

Endlich innerlich tot

Game of Thrones ist eine Rosskur gegen Empathie. Wie die HBO-Serie dabei helfen kann, die brutale Realität zu ertragen.

Mein Problem ist, dass ich keine Gewalt ertrage. Die Welt ist viel zu schlecht und brutal für mich, viel zu weit weg von meinem Ideal einer flauschfarbenen Kissenschlacht-Kuschelparty, in der man Streitereien durch Törtchenbacken löst. Die reale Welt halten nur echte Männer aus, emotionale Eisblöcke, bekennende Nullempathiker. Und so einer bin ich nicht. Noch nicht.

Denn ich arbeite dran. Ich härte mich ab, per Konfrontationstherapie. Ich gucke „Game of Thrones“. Das ist der Fantasy-Politthriller mit Drachen und Eiszombies, von dem gerade die sechste Staffel angelaufen ist.

Dahinter steht der US-amerikanische Bezahlsender HBO. Der stopft pro Staffel rund 50 Millionen Dollar in seinen spieltheoretischen Mittelaltermarkt. Um die wieder hereinzubekommen, hält die Serie ihre Fans mit Sex, Gewalt und sexueller Gewalt bei der Stange. Das ist bekannt, es ist die Marke der Serie. Schlitz, spritz, röchel. Das gehört einfach dazu.

„Igitt“, sagte eine Freundin, der ich die Serie empfohlen hatte. „In nur einer Folge sind ein Dutzend Menschen erstochen und drei Frauen misshandelt worden, warum guckst du dir so was an?“

Alles fühlt sich ganz taub an

Ich hatte keine Antwort. Ein bisschen habe ich mich sogar geschämt. Der schützende Bildschirm verhindert, dass ich fühle, was ich normalerweise empfinden würde. Gewaltfernsehen stumpft ab. Doch doch, das tut es! Immerhin ist das zufällig ein ganz prima Training für meinen Beruf.

Feinfühligkeit ist nämlich auch ein Problem beim Medienmachen. Wie soll man denn als Winselmemme den Tod, das Leid und den vielen überflüssigen Hass ertragen, der schon morgens beim ersten Grüntee über die Twitter-Timeline splattert? Es gibt zwei Möglichkeiten.

Variante eins: den Schmerz leben. Nicht erst seitdem Menschen auf der Flucht vor Armut und Verfolgung im Mittelmeer ertrinken, erscheint in regelmäßigen Abständen die Mahnung zu mehr Mitgefühl. Wir müssten uns vor der Abgebrühtheit bewahren, die durch die globale Bilderflut entsteht. Ich ha b ’s versucht. Hat nicht funktioniert. Wenn ich mitfühle, kann ich meinen Job nicht machen, kann ich noch nicht mal mehr meine Wohnung putzen. Ich bin gelähmt vom Leid fremder Menschen, die nichts davon haben, dass ich mit ihnen leide.

Deswegen mach ic h ’s jetzt anders. Variante zwei: Ich setze mich dem Schrecken von „Game of Thrones aus“, der übertrieben und viel zu nah ist. Ich verkrieche mich in meine Couchkissen, beiße die Zähne fest in die Kuscheldecke und lass schwitzend und wimmernd das ganze Kunstblut und die Spezialeffektgedärme durch mein System pumpen. Bis ich endlich innerlich tot bin und sich alles ganz taub anfühlt.

Erst Häuten, dann Kastration

So erreichen die schrecklichen Nachrichten aus der echten Welt zwar meine oberen Hautschichten, aber nicht mein Herz. Nach etwas mehr als fünf Staffeln Anti-Empathie-Kur ist kaum noch etwas in mir, das zu einer Regung fähig wäre. Was sol l ’s, ich bin gereinigt vom Mitleid, diesem Laster, das schon den alten Griechen und den Aufklärern ein Gräuel war.

Folter in Ägypten, Mexiko und Guantánamo? Okay, zur Kenntnis genommen. Juckt mich nicht, immerhin habe ich mir eben noch reingezogen, wie jemandem am Andreaskreuz die Haut abgeschält und der Penis abgeschnitten wurde. Babys werden in Idomeni in Schlammpfützen gewaschen? Bei „Game of Thrones“ werden Neugeborene von Hunden gefressen oder sie werden im Wald ausgesetzt, wo sie die Eiszombies holen. Noch was? Vergewaltigung? Ach komm, neulich wurde die Königinmutter von ihrem Zwillingsbruder auf dem Sarg ihres Sohnes zum Sex gezwungen. Normal.

Allein, ganz am Ziel bin ich noch nicht. Erst kürzlich ist in meinem erweiterten Umfeld ein Hase gestorben. Da habe ich etwas gefühlt. Das ist leider inakzeptabel. Ich hoffe also, dass „Game of Thrones“ um eine weitere, siebte Staffel verlängert wird.

I'd disagree with that article, as these aspects of the serie are mainly there to make people feel something and not the other way around. These are human traits whether or not one likes them (or the Creator's traits), so avoidance to face these things seems more likely to shutdown empathy as it denotes a desire to not feel how one feels toward facets of itself.

I think there is a difference between being empathic and overly sensible too.

Yeah, I really like the Hound. I'm not entirely sure why since he has done* so many horrible things.

his childhood seems to drive a lot of that behaviour.

I sort of see him (as a parallel) as how a sensitive soul could get caught up in the throes of karmic overload by choosing an environment such as Atlantis to birth in.

The season 6 finale is tonight. And I'm concerned for Ser Loras Tyrell. It pains my heart to see someone good and light hearted being tortured and persecuted for being homosexual!! It's not a sin and he should not have to apologize and atone for it.

Remember Oberyn Martell from season 4? He open loved men and women because of their beauty. He was a happy passionate man. His vigor was admirable.

Humanity has made great strides and my heart is ever hopeful. As for the finale, I think something big is going to happen. The unlawfulness of the Faith Militant needs to be stopped. Their sense of human justice is divorced from reality in favor of fanaticism. Their self righteousness is poisonous and completely abridges free will. I guess GoT can be seen as a mirror of humanity?

Anyway, season 6 has had some intense moments! Hodor's sacrifice brought me to tears. The war scene from 6x09 was ugly and beautiful at the same time. There were moments just for shock value. And Sansa's choice to take the lower/lesser road with Ramsay disappointed me. Why become the monster that you fear and hate? Why not take the higher road with compassion and execute him with mercy?

I'm just rambling now lol. I'm a big fan of GRRM's A Song of Ice and Fire.
