I think it's an obvious thing that we need to do as a society, to deal with these dual activated children who have way too much sensory overload in their environment. I saw during Christmastime that a lot of stores, like Toys R Us, were doing "quiet days" or "quiet hours" where they turn the fluorescent lights down, keep music off, and avoid any intercom announcements, to allow parents to bring in children with sensory disorders. These are tiny steps to help our most vulnerable - but shouldn't it say something about ourselves, too? Why do we feel so much like we need CONSTANTLY stimulus and input? Why do we accept that we are constantly being shouted at and advertised to? Our attention is precious, we should treat it as more of a commodity. Thank you to the autistic children who are helping to teach us this lesson.
