In any given interaction, there is the opportunity to empathize or to externalize. You can bring another person deeper into their experience or story, or you can help bring them out of it.
Love would empathize with the other person. People do this well on reality tv shows. The classic example of this is simply repeating the last couple words that someone says to allow them the feeling that they are being 'heard' and can open up further. This works, but it feels like it shouldn't.
Wisdom would be encouraging them to externalize their experience so that it can be processed with some separation from the event.
These are the thoughts off the top of my head.
