Why did Ra never reveal them flat-out? Why does he explain the archetypes in such an obscure way? Why does he encourage everyone to interpret them as they please?

Because they are the periodic table of magic. If you understand these archetypes and apply them like nothing else, you can become a god. And he's not going to infringe on everyone's freewill by spelling it out clearly, oh so unfortunately.
