I just want to share that I empathize with this a lot, Gem. My mother flew off the handle just about every day when I was growing up. She would break my things or just make a mess out of my room, and call my sister and me "fucking snakes" or "little whores". In the somewhat recent past I heard her raise her voice to my youngest sister (almost 14) and it sounded straight-up demonic.

Many hard lessons to learn when the maternal figure is completely backwards. Good luck, brother.
