Patterns in the archetypes

regards the yin/yang bias, I explored the male/female principle in the archetypes here: http://www.bring4th.org/forums/showthread.php?tid=9577

regards the pairings, the Matrix/Potentiator are one, as you mentioned, along with the Catalyst/Experience and then the Transformation/Great Way.    But if you look at the thread I linked to, each of these individual cards has it's own yin/yang bias, and there's no reason to assume that a pairing in itself would reflect an overall male/female principle.
