Ah a thread that has real world applications for once. Quite refreshing indeed.
Anyways, I equate power to the level of desire one develops to be of service. To find that insatiable drive towards being of service to an other self, is to find the key of our incarnations purpose.
One needs not friends nor acquaintances for such desire to be fulfilled. One may still feel out of place discussing the mundane folly that most other selves concern themselves with. If one can't attempt to interact due to ones own insecurities, one can still find opportunities for service. Examples of such would be volunteering, service oriented careers such as healthcare, etc
If one still finds that they are incapable of interacting with other selves in the most basic of circumstances, then that is where the inner power/desire must first be developed along with the most likely reason for this current incarnation. Blaming ones past or current circumstances for the inability to interact with one's other self is akin to blaming the gun maker for the murder. It takes the personal responsibility away and the free will away from the other self who, ultimately, is making or not making the choice.
