'Khem' is what Thoth the Atlantean called Egypt, and the people there the 'men of Khem'. Khem means 'black' and from that came 'alkhemy' the 'black art' which was said to have been the keepsake of the men of Khem. This comes from the first phase of alchemy, the black phase of Primal Matter where the ingredients first are charred and then calcinated.
