I can understand the need to feel safe on ones property. If it is privately owned then only the owner or those welcomed by him should be allowed onto the property in my opinion. Having people you do not know running or walking through your Garden can be distressing i am sure. That being said i don't believe it is justification for racial behavior. I think trespassing is a matter for the civil authority in your local area.
Now if i am to look at this from a more spiritual side, i could say that nobody can really own land of the Earth and the individual doesn't sound like he was doing any harm, simply using it as a short cut to get to a desired location.
In order to balance such an issue, i would simply let it go for the time being and if the event happens often again in the future, i would express concern to the local authorities and see if something can be done about it. Beyond that i don't see any possible logically outcome.
