I think it is seen in the same light as lifting weights or exercising or challenges in general. Exercising isn't always pleasant. In fact, its hard work, but it satisfies a deep need within us for growth and progression. I think the secret of life is learning to live within the illusion, but inwardly know the unity so intrinsically that you can even enjoy and savor the apparent separation, because you know deep inside that it is just a play in consciousness. Easier said than done, of course.
A dream can be very scary until you know, without a shadow of a doubt, that you are dreaming, and then it actually becomes kind of fun.
