The origin and purpose of religion

Some religion were started out of good intentions, some were started out of bad intentions, but almost all of them turned into control systems for STS people. The ideal purpose of a religion would be providing people with as true beliefs as possible, or beliefs that can help them polarize the most to STO, or beliefs that can help them understand the world around them the most. In my opinion the purpose of religion now is basically a comfort for many people who aren't ready yet to abandon their assumptions and seek truth in a more direct way, which is useful for these people, but I still would prefer that the arbitrary system of beliefs they take comfort in be as true as possible, as STO oriented as possible, and not a means for an elite to gain power and money.
