That's funny because I see those as the ones "seeing past the facade". I see no reason to attribute emotion to the "gradualist" theory. I used to have difficulty seeing it too. Admittedly, I was of the "abrupt" scenario because I didn't want to consider that I had to wait any longer, and I also wanted to 'proof' the material one way or the other. I clouded my own perception of the material to fit the "abrupt/instantaneous" scenario. The only reason I'm pointing this out is because it is apparent that avoidance of the possibility can go both ways.
