Great question and thanks for the laugh.
Based on my own experience and study of psychology:
I would let the emotion within get expressed without. In a safe, supportive environment, let it out! Express the tears by crying and by talking about the feelings of loss, fear and separation. Express the anger by proclaiming how things are unfair, hit a pillow, swing a nerf bat or do some heavy exercise. Burn off and burn out the stress before it burns up inside.
Or come to a discussion forum and write about how one feels. But in person is best if possible.
Emotions are like waves, our lives like ships. Boats should ride over the waves and let them pass by. Maybe a big wave splashes on deck a while before it runs off. The safest captain is not the one who can stop the waves from coming, but the one who can ride through the waves as they pass by.
In Law of One terms, accept the waves as catalyst for one's experience of the ups and downs of the ocean. Then choose to continue one's intended course.
