I have a hard time believing that if withholding it was such a detriment to our development (in other words, if it is the actual answer), the balance of positive and negative influences would have allowed it to slip out in some form.

You might feel differently if you lived in a home, or even a slum, which did not have any power - no lighting or warmth.

Or if you were one of those exposed to the radiation from a disrupted nuclear reactor.

The other aspect is Gaia herself. A world of non explosive (polluting) energy (including nuclear), would be much healthier for the planet itself and all living beings upon it.
