After reading the last couple of sentences, I was made very aware of my thought process while reading your entire post...

Hmm, looking up "disinterested" in the thesaurus yields many results, from aloof to withdrawn, which seem to somewhat lend themselves to the peace we feel, but not to the joy.
However, one sticks out at me. "unselfish"! Perhaps the most joyous word there.
