The most efficient course of action in relation to a negative thought which has arisen is to substitute that thought with its inverse, usually the positively polarized antithesis to it. Rather than think "It's a gloomy day" when it rains it might be more fruitful and uplifting to instead think "The rain is adding a beautiful touch to the day" and one can muse on the divine essence dwelling within each rain drop if one so wishes to.
