An analogy came to mind that is a fun way for me to think about this Choice we face in each moment of our life on 3d earth.

In the British government, the political party that is out of power is the monarch's Loyal Opposition. The premise is that the king or queen deserves the best possible government. Unfortunately, the voters have put the wrong party in power! Nevertheless, the losing party continues to express their point of view about what should be done.

As soon as the voters fix their mistaken choice, the formerly losing party is now the ruling party, and their plans become the law of the land and the actions of the government. In this way the out-of-power party is ready to provide as much guidance to the monarch as the public will accept.

(Of course this storyline is one of the charming but irrelevant stories that Brits like to use as a form of entertainment and myth, justifying some of their snazzy ceremonies that they do so well every few years. Outside of official speech day, I bet most Members of Parliament never think or talk at all in these terms. But the analogy is helpful.)

In the same way, STO and STS spiritual forces each provide a suggestion for how we should focus our soul's attention in order to serve the ultimate Creator. In our lives, we are each the voter of our own personal sovereign state of our own lives. There is one vote per government - our own vote - for which party's platform is the way we run our lives.

In Britain, both parties have a mixture of people and ideas, both good and bad. Neither party is entirely the party of Peace, Love, Unity, and Harmony. Nor is either party entirely the party of Total War and Conquest outside the nation, plus Ultimate Authoritarianism against the population. Both main parties have elements of both ideas.

In our spiritual universe, the Service-to-Self Party provides a non-stop self-aggrandizement platform of fear, control, manipulation, violence, deceit, etc. And the Service-to-Others Party offers a 24/7 platform of mutual respect, creative expression, compassion, networked participation without coercion, etc.

On earth, the STS party will ultimately reach a dead end. When outward growth depends on conquest, and there is nothing left to conquer, an empire can't grow any more. When the government has to rely on an obedient, taxpaying population, excess authority makes people leave, or refuse to participate, or have a revolution so widespread it can't be beat back down.

And the same is true spiritually. Eventually the STS forces will reach a spiritual cul-de-sac, a dead end of evolution. For any further growth, they'll have to open the hearts to the light and love, the compassion and caring, the goodwill based cooperation that they've denied.

Until they get there, however, they are the Loyal Opposition to the STO forces of light & love. They have an alternative plan for everything, in every moment: the plan of imperial conquest at all levels. The dark plan includes scheming manipulation of politics and economics over hundreds and even thousands of years. It continues all the way down through the rudeness and arrogance of how one treats one's encounters in daily life, and down to the micro level of hating, despising, controlling and micro-managing one's own thoughts and feelings moment to moment.

In every moment of awareness, we can choose to fulfill the STS or STO roadmap. Over the course of a lifetime, the total tally of our votes demonstrates our true party affiliation.

Great analogy, Questioner. Sometimes the part of me which says that the suffering created by the STS authorities is not good and to be avoided wishes that I was experiencing a one-party planet, of the STO kind.

It is interesting to note that with both polarities, and both political parties in your analogy, and indeed with almost every person on earth- they all believe that they are the "good guys", or are living their lives "right". Heck, I know I sure feel that way! And yet to another, I have things all wrong. No one, or group believes that they are "the bag guys". Just an additional observation to go with your interesting post, Questioner!

A useful analogy, Questioner. I myself have been thinking along these lines for some time now in my efforts to properly understand & navigate the already epic though yet still mundane Earthian control-struggle-- not to mention any more rarified cosmic conflict in various speculative metaphysical theatres of operation! Perhaps apropos: some passages in a book I came upon today, The Semi-Sovereign People-- A Realist's View of Democracy in America (NY: Holt, Rinehart and Winston,1960), by E. E. Schattschneider (then-Professor of Political Science at Wesleyan University). A number of interesting points are brought out which one could well take into consideration with respect to Ra's promulgated theory of poli-sci.

"What happens in politics depends on the way in which people are divided into factions, parties, groups, classes, etc. The outcome of the game of politics depends on which of a multitude of possible conflicts gains the dominant position....

The political universe remains the same in spite of of the shift [in the axis of factional cleavage], but what people can do and what they cannot do depends on how they are divided. Every shift of the the line of cleavage will determine the place of each individual in the political system, what side he is on,  who is opposed to him, how large the opposing sides are, what the conflict is about and who wins. Since this is the process by which majorities and minorities are made, it may be said that every change in the direction and location of the line of cleavage produces a new majority and a new allocation of power....

[A] conflict presupposes the mobilization of people on both sides of the line of cleavage. This is true because no conflict that amounts to more than a brawl can develop without a consolidation of the support of the opposing factions. It follows that conflicts divide people and unite them at the same time, and the process of consolidation is as integral to conflict as the process of division. The more fully the conflict is developed, the more intense it becomes, the more complete is the consolidation of the opposing camps. The failure to understand that unification and division are a part of the same process has produced some illusions about politics....

The calculus of politics becomes vastly more complex and the potentialities are multiplied tremendously when we move from the frontal attack of the whites on the blacks to flank attacks designed to bring about a substitution of a new conflict for the old one. The flank attack produces a conflict of conflicts in which an attempt is made to displace the [existing] alignment by another.

There are billions of potential conflicts in any modern society, but only a few become significant. The reduction of the number of conflicts is an essential part of politics. Politics deals with the domination and subordination of conflicts. A democratic society is able to survive because it manages conflict by establishing priorities among a multitude of potential conflicts.

Any political system which attempted to exploit all of the tensions in the community would be blown to bits. On the other hand, every combination involves the dominance of some conflicts and the subordination of others. Politics deals with the effort to use conflict. Every political party consists of discordant elements which are restrained by the fact that unity is the price of victory. The question always is: Which battle do we want most to win?"

    Indeed.

    Cheers!
