I mean, imagine looking at 2.5 million years and seeing it as a short amount of time. What causes this acceleration of perspective?

You play at pre-historic levels and try to figure out a better way to have the villagers figure out what are edible berries and what are not, previous attempts usually involve villagers eating, you have an idea that of a new method of checking berries for safety. You implement it in this new pre-historic levels, realize that it works, load up one of the modern games where in their history the pre-historic save's method of berry picking is also known, even though it wasnt when you saved it but was invented by you in a different save and transferred to the AI routine which then recalculates the society assuming that pre-historic berry picking was done slightly differently. A few points are adjusted here, and a few points there, one major war happens, two major wars that happened last time were left not happening. You think to yourself, hmm, this is a slight improvement but I think I need to do something about X.
