how well do you think this corresponds to the first 5 chakras?

Quote:49.6 Each experience will be sequentially understood by the growing and seeking mind/body/spirit complex in terms of survival, then in terms of personal identity, then in terms of social relations, then in terms of universal love, then in terms of how the experience may beget free communication, then in terms of how the experience may be linked to universal energies, and finally in terms of the sacramental nature of each experience.

Esteem would fall in the lower category imo.

Maslow's heirarchy could probably be correlated with the lower energy centers, especially red and orange rays (the color coding and pyramid, tho interesting way to represent, was not part of Maslow's theory). The theory states that sufficient levels of one stage is necessary for person to experience the next stage. e.g.,If person does not have the basic needs of survival, it's difficult to become a self-actualized being. If a person does not have a securely attached relationship (love/bonding needs) then it may become difficult to veiw self (or others) in a 'healthy' way (esteem needs). We learn competence/mastry, confidence etc., through engaging with others.

Good question. They do seem to loosely correlate.

The main difference I see is that the hierarchy of needs is linear. You don't access the layer above until you take care of the layer below. Whereas with the chakras, the crown chakra may be open while the root chakra is blocked and so on. So the chakra functions are always in dynamic flux as a person evolves.

Yes, I find Maslow's heirarchy of needs matching the first five chakras. These two systems also match the structure of the brain.

The brain is made up of the following:
    1) The reptilian brain that handles the physical (e.g. breathing, heart-rate, hunger, sex, fear of physical pain and death etc). This part is located at the bottom of the brain.
    2) The limbic system that deals with emotions (e.g. love, bliss, hate, anger, etc). This part is located in the middle part of the brain.
    3) The cortex that does the thinking, problem solving, creativity. This is located at the top of the brain.

One can also add to this brain list the pineal gland that does the supernatural or psychic stuff. The sixth chakra?
