RE: what music are you listening to now

I listened so much to it once all the intro's multi-layered voice singing was stuck good in my head which was a bit trippy.

In the idea of infinity, acceptance of all the potentials the mind can think of is required for a balanced union with what is seen of infinity

Introducing one of my favorite french bands: Alcest.

All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost

The texture of the soul is a liquid that casts a vermilion flood
From a wound carved as an oath; it fills the river bank a sanguine fog
These arms were meant to be lost! Hacked, severed and forgotten
The texture of time is a whisper that echoes across the flood
It's hymn resonates from tree to tree, through every sullen bough it sings
These boughs were said to be lost! Torn, unearthed and broken
Earth to flesh, flesh to wood, cast these limbs into the water
Flesh to wood, wood to stone, cast this stone into the water...
All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost

RE: what music are you listening to now
Maynard Keenen, the frontman of Tool, strikes me as a classic wounded wanderer. Very spiritually minded, yet with a perception that has been warped by trauma. With this in mind, Tool's discography can be seen as the story of a man who begins with rejection and wrath when young, but eventually through the process of healing and self discovery ascends to a sacred understanding and reverence as he grows older.

I will now post four songs from four albums, each exemplifying the tone of the creative work and the progression of Maynard's healing. Notice how the music itself dramatically transforms with each album.

Song: Prison Sex. Theme: Abuse and the cycle of abuse.
"I do unto you now, what has been done to me, I do unto others... what has been done...?"
"Release in sodomy, for one sweet moment I'm whole."

Song: H.. Theme: Trying to let go of the traumatised portion of the mind. Resisting the attempts of the true mind to destroy you. Simultaneously being the true and traumatised portions of the mind and recognising the dynamic at play.
"What's singing songs is a snake, it is looking to turn my piss to wine."
"The snake behind me hisses what my damage could have been. My blood before me begs me to open up my heart again."
"I sill feel you. Touching me. Changing me."
"I could have cried then. I should have cried then."

Song: The Patient. Theme: The patience required to be a spiritual patient and heal trauma, the ongoing process of reintegration.
"If there were no desire to heal a damaged and broken man along this tedious path I've chosen here, I certainly would have walked away by now."
"Be patient, I must keep reminding myself of this"

Song: Jambi. Theme: Finding the divine pearl of love and never wanting to let go. Relinquishing all else for the pearl.
"No prize that could hold sway, or justify my giving away, my center."
"You're my peace of mind, my home, my center."
"Shine on forever. Shine on, benevolent sun. Shine upon the severed, shine until the two become one."

Special Mention just because I love it and it's epic (especially the build up and crescendo from 11:00 to 13:00) and hilarious: Rosetta Stoned. Theme: Psychedelic drug use and the fleeting sense of purpose and enlightenment which it can give you.
"10 to 2 AM, X, Yogi DMT, and a box of Krispy Kremes"
"And after calming me down with some orange slices and some fetal spooning, E.T revealed to me his singular purpose."
"This so real, like the time Dave floated away."
"Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position, it's such a heavy burden now to be "The One""
"God damn! s*** the bed!"

MangusKhan, I find parallels between Tool and Perfect Circle, as well as their skill in music to Porcupine Tree.
You might like to try listening to some of Porcupine Tree's songs.

They have a wide range of taste. Here's two to give an idea of the contrast:

The second makes apparent the skill of the drummer, Gavin Harrison. If you notice, even in the beginning of the song, he plays the toms in key and tone with the other instruments.
I like to say he's a melodic drummer.

Very poignant stuff. The epic progression of the second song moved me to tears. Thank you for sharing this band.

"Every song I write tells a story. A story that humanity needs to know about.
In my music I speak of unknown things. Impossible things. Ancient things. Potential things. No two songs tell the same story.

Humanity's life depends upon the unknown.
Everything else comes from outer space."

Compassion, sensitivity, and an ability to empathize are helpful in avoiding the distortions of man-made intelligence and awareness.

RE: what music are you listening to now

[English Translation]
[Verse 1:]
The night that the fierce typhoon passed, I was looking down on the city from the top of a tall building
The wind still a little erratic, tearing at the edge of its departure
The lights of the houses nearby shimmered like through searing air
I've never witnessed a scene like, though I was used to seeing it

[Hook:]
Something is going to change, that's how I felt, in a little while
It disappears quietly, June, number 6, in a little while, in a little while

[Verse 2:]
I can hear the low anouncement of the final train more clearly than usual
Like always, I just keep on staring blankly at the sky
My eyelids a little heavy, I close my eyes
From far away I hear your voice, I'd better get going

[Pre-Hook:]
I've cleared a period of low pressure, that's how I felt, in a little while
My feeling suddenly becomes lighter, that's how I feel, in a little while, in a little while

[Hook:]
Something is going to change, that's how I felt, in a little while
It disappears quietly, June, number 6, in a little while, in a little while
By the time I notice, the hour hand is pointing to 2 o'clock, in a little while
My feeling suddenly becomes lighter, that's how I feel, in a little while, in a little while

[Outro:]
The night that the fierce typhoon passed, I was looking down on the city from the top of a tall building
I'm still a little erratic, tearing at the edge of its departure

Born to the glare of the senses
Spoon-fed reality infused
A new inherent
Passive contentment
You are so easily amused

Unbroken unchained relentless to regain
what we have lost
a grip in reality screaming deep down within me as
I count the cost
holding on in spite of the doubt
always trying to find it out
that we could find a way back there
beyond the moon right through the air

always remembering...

They initially made this song when they were much more metal. so a darker version of this also exists.

All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost
