Carla and I did our Morning Offering and then got her ready for her day. The shingles have not let up on the pain or nausea so this was another day in which Carla had to struggle to get solid food down. Apple sauce is her good friend now. She was busy today honchoing preparations for my birthday party. Today is my Medicare birthday: 65 years old. That is hard to believe.
My first mowing job was a big one and took all morning to complete. I thought I would be home extra early as I just had one more mowing job with trimming bushes added on for an early end to the day. 2 ½ hours later I finally finished trimming the bushes and it turns out that I had trimmed 105 boxwood bushes! Then I mowed the grass and got home about an hour early. I listened to the Rolling Stones on my iPod and when their song, Mother’s Little Helper, came on I laughed at the line “What a drag it is getting old.” Mick wrote that in his twenties and had no idea about arthritis.
Gary was in the office and did file a report today:
I was too frustrated to send a “blogworthy” email yesterday. I spent the majority of the day on the Gatherings Newsletter, a lot of it feeling like it was wasted trying to iron out tangles of errors, and I worked well beyond the point I wanted to be finished by. Today is a better day though. Here is today’s with some of yesterday:
Scored Carla lunch
Shipped book orders
Completed (what has become our) annual Gatherings Newsletter
Finished and made live the online store item to purchase tuition + foodstuffs for Homecoming
Shipped book orders again
Bring4th moderator work again
Spent time working on trying to fix Facebook issues for Carla’s account so that I can give her tutorial on how to use. Did not succeed. Will have to wait till Monday. Carla’s facebook
Created template for new Homecoming registrants
Began getting ducks in a row for Homecoming, organizing files and such
Accepted first two registrations for Homecoming!
Responded to Plenum re his work with the Ra mp3’s. We’re both waiting on Steve
Responded to and seconded Carla’s idea for a fire pit for Homecoming.
Worked to help local Lo1 reader schedule meeting
Arranged meeting with Eddie and Romi for an 8 pm dinner tonight
Discussion with Lana about Facebook (she updates L/L’s page)
Sent scanned image of Carla dancing as a child to Michelle who will create cover art for Carla’s new poetry book. (Michelle created cover art for AWH, ABOD, and 101.)
Received the transcript to Tobey’s March 30th appearance on “In the Now” from volunteer transcriber Howard B. Sent to Tobey for him to fill in holes. Tobey returned, I sent to Carla for editing before she will send it to Ian for publication to the archive website.
Received sessions 20 – 18 of the re-relistened Ra contact from Michelle.
My evening came after a hot bath and a short nap and was highlighted by a birthday party where my room was decorated in shades of purple (my favorite color) complete with a three foot birthday cake made out of three new watering hoses still in their packages and wrapped to look like a birthday cake. My old hoses were worn out and these gifts served double duty. I got some new cargo work pants and a couple of nifty bracelets made out of a copper/silver alloy. Carla also arranged for my favorite cake to be made: German chocolate. It was a grand event and I almost felt young again. Carla said the prayer at the Gaia Meditation tonight.

Carla and I did our Morning Offering and then got her ready for her day. Both Kathleen and Linda came today with Kathleen training Linda on Carla’s new wound VAC machine. It is a relatively new type of wound VAC and nurses want to get some experience on this type of machine so Carla will probably be seeing more nurses as time goes on and they get trained to make dressing changes with this type of machine. They take measurements on Mondays and so far there has been good progress with this machine even after only a few days in place. Carla had a kind of urpy day so she was able to eat a little fish sandwich and a little hot dog at the end of the day.
My day went very well with the first three hours spent gardening for a neighbor/customer who had a lot of melampodium to transplant. She also had a new load of wood chips dropped so I could spread it around the areas where her dogs dig in the back yard while hunting for moles. The mowing went well and it was an ideal kind of day to work with temperatures in the ‘70s and lots of sun.
Gary spent some time in the L/L office today and reported the following:
Un, ur, well, this is where I usually go to Carla’s inbox and copy what Gary has reported as his work for the day, but he must have been so busy working that he wasn’t able to get to the report. You can be sure he was busy. You just can’t be sure what he was up to.
Carla and I enjoyed the new NCIS on television tonight and enjoyed each other’s company. The healing process seems to have made her back itch a lot, so she enjoys having her back scratched. Tonight the scratching seems to have worked to calm down the extra pain that comes with the way the tubing is inserted into the tunneling areas of her wound. We will take little victories. I said the prayer at the Gaia Meditation tonight.

Carla and I did our Morning Offering and then got her ready for her day. Her nausea was back in full force today so getting food down was the trick. Gary bought her a fish sandwich for lunch and she ate most of that so we counted that a victory. She did her two laps and was hoping for more sleep as she didn’t sleep much during the night, but the day was wakeful as well. She was glad to get some good work done with Gary, so she was able to carry on in spite of discomfort.
My mowing day went quickly and pleasantly, so I was able to get on to the penultimate load of honeysuckle bushes from my clearing project for the Donans. I started off by removing all the vines that I could reach with my ladder in the last major clearing area up by the house and was surprised at how many I got. Some were as big around as my arm so you can see that they had been there for a while. Then I went down to the last area around the creek and began clearing the honeysuckle from there.
Gary was busy in the L/L office today:
Made special stop to FedEx this morning for book order going to FedEx employee
Worked with Bring4th mods regarding issue with a member
Scored Carla lunch and shared lunch with her
Took dictation from Carla to three IMU (International Metaphysical University) essays
Reviewed and offered light editing suggestions for Carla’s Intro to her new poetry book that Ian is putting together
Assisted one Bring4th member with account issues, took some time
Checked on Avalon’s nine new baby chicks
Contacted an individual about creating a custom-made meditation pyramid. I am going to get one built come hell or high water!
Helped Carla select a photo for the cover art of her new poetry book
Coordinated with Eddie, a visiting L/L friend, for a Thursday dinner with him and Romi
Put together the Gatherings Newsletter (!) for Carla’s editing review (email tomorrow)
Created news entry for Bring4th website for Homecoming (publish it tomorrow)
Created entry in online store for Homecoming 2012’s tuition + foodstuffs (go live tomorrow)
Assisted wandering neighborhood dog find its wandering neighborhood owner
Carla and I enjoyed the new NCIS episodes on television tonight and took a nap or two as well. Our days contain what seems to be a thousand things to do and we just get worn out, so naps are our friends which we are always glad to see. Carla said the prayer at the Gaia Meditation tonight.

Carla and I did our Morning Offering and then got her ready for her day. Kathleen came by today and changed Carla’s dressing and reported that the few days that Carla has been on the new wound VAC machine have seen improvement in the measurements of the wound and the tunneling. We are thrilled about that. Carla spent some time on her computer and noted that she had a lot of people who wanted to be her friends on Facebook so she went about saying yes to each of them in turn and soon received an email from someone at Facebook saying that she was using her account improperly and they were closing it out. She emailed back and asked what the problem was and could she have her account back. This was repeated again and we are not sure where her account stands now.
My mowing day went well and I was able to get the big job for Tuesday done today so that Tuesday I can spend some time at my honeysuckle brush clearing project and perhaps finish it. My first job today was just across the street and when I came back to load up my mowers and head out for the rest of my day I noticed a grey heron flying away from my side yard fish pond with one of my goldfish in its mouth. I got out a tarp to cover the part of the pond not covered by water lilies and went in the house to get Gary to help me with it. As we were coming out of the house we noticed a snapping turtle of about 10” in diameter entering my front fish pond. We spent a good deal of time trying to catch the turtle but we unsuccessful. Now my fish are not smiling any more and neither am I. At the end of the day I put a heron decoy at the side pond and am still hunting the turtle in the front fish pond.
When he wasn’t helping me hunt turtles Gary reported working in the L/L office:
Spent whole chunk of this diurnal cycle on Bring4th moderator issues, including a closed thread, discussion with other mods, discussion with other members, etc.
Thanked a reader on Carla’s behalf for a book the reader sent to Carla which Carla recently finished. (It was a romance novel, naturally.)
Responded to various email from readers, including having to let one person know that there is still as-of-yet no German translation of the Lo1.
Asked Steve about the Ra mp3’s because because Garry, an Australian volunteer, began formatting them for digital download and they await only Steve’s loving care and attention. Did I mention that Steve is the best? And because he is the best he will be accomplishing this soon. (Note to Steve: I don’t write this thinking that you would read this and through flattery I would cajole you into accomplishing this project. Not at all.)
Discussion with Joseph, Lana, and Tobey regarding the Ra Glossary
Asked Carla for the composition of three sections for the Gatherings Newsletter. Happy to report that Carla composed those sections in her unfailingly eloquent voice so that the Gatherings Newsletter (and Homecoming announcement) can go out tomorrow!
Carla and I spent our evening watching television and then shared another magical energy exchange and were most grateful for the Creator’s thoughtfulness. I said the prayer at the Gaia Meditation tonight.

Carla and I did our Morning Offering and then got her ready for her day. Her nausea is receding somewhat so it is a little easier for her to eat. We are grateful for that. She was able to get her two laps in and the rest of the day was spent playing solitaire, reading, and watching some television.
I ran a few more errands this morning getting my gas cans filled with gas for the week’s mowing. I picked up a few impatiens at Home Depot and planted them in the pots around the fish pond in the side yard. I finally got that fountain working and it is making a tall, misty geyser into the air. The front fish pond has its waterfall working too, so it feels like our fish are happy. It’s hard to see a smile on a fish so we just have to assume.
After lunch Carla and I took our usual naps and enjoyed them greatly. I guess it’s a sign of old age when you look forward to sleeping. We watched some NCIS episodes that we had recorded and occasionally watched some news on CNN as well.
Our evening was spent with all three of our kitties sleeping on the bed with us and that was a cozy bunch. Dan D. Lion, our outside cat joins us for an hour or so in the evening so we can keep an eye on him and be sure he doesn’t “mark” any territory. He is a sweetie but he has this one bad habit. I said the prayer at the Gaia Meditation tonight.

Carla and I arose properly late for a Saturday morning and then did our Morning Offering. After that it was the washing and application of oils and crèmes that gets her ready for her day. We have to put our new wound VAC machine, Sylvie, in a carrying bag that goes around my neck when we walk because Sylvie isn’t as easy to carry in the hand as was Little Martha. I also changed the bedding on both of our beds today and that is always the signal to our little black cat, Chloe, to jump on the bed and play with the sheets. We had a fine time.
Then I was off to Middletown and surrounding areas to make my usual errand run. I brought fast food back for our lunch and then we descended into the first of our lovely naps. After the nap I went outside and continued my project of tying back the daffodil leaves so the coral bells under them can get some sun and begin to grow. I will have to replace some of the coral bells that died out. I also began taking some of our house plants outside for the summer as we are past the danger of frost now.
The Kentucky Derby was run at 6:24 pm and was the shining spectacle that everyone has come to call the Greatest Two Minutes in Sports. The record crowd of 165,307 saw I’ll Have Another win with Mario Gutierrez aboard in his first Derby ride ever. They broke from the #19 post position and their victory was the first ever from that position as that distance is quite a further than from, say, the inside rail. The winning horse was given the blanket of roses that contains nearly 500 Freedom Roses from Ecuador, each sewn into the blanket and containing its own vial of water. More Derby parties were held at various hotels and upscale residences all over town. Carla and I celebrated with a takeout meal from Applebee’s. Do we know how to party or what?!
Our evening was spent hanging out and enjoying each other’s company. We finished the evening by watching the actor, Jeff Bridges, and his band play on Austin City Limits. After the movie Crazy Heart he began focusing on his music and he is a pretty good country singer. Carla said the prayer at the Gaia Meditation tonight.

Carla and I did our Morning Offering and then got her ready for her day. Today Gentle Jean came by to change Carla’s dressing and to train on the new machine. It seems that Carla has become somewhat of a “course of instruction” for the Visiting Nurses and they all want to get some experience with her wound and machine. The dressing change goes better with more lidocain applied to the wound area and that was done today and should become a standard part of the procedure.
Gary and I had a great day for cutting grass. The temperatures have been in the mid-80s for the last couple of days so Gary is in his pouring cold water over the head procedure to get some relief from the heat and humidity. Gary cleaned the mowers after we finished while I went to another customer’s yard to plant flowers in her four window boxes just in time for Derby.
While I was planting the flowers the couple at that house came out and gave me a report on the severe weather that was heading for Churchill Downs. Today was the day for the Oaks Race, the Derby for fillies and there were 116,000 people at the track who had to be evacuated to safer areas of the track as 60 mph winds and heavy rain were on the way. After that weather front passed everyone returned for more racing and the Oaks was won by a horse named Believe You Can and she was ridden by Rosie Napravnik, the first female jockey ever to win the Oaks in its 138 year history. Don’t you just love the symbolism!
One primary feature of the Derby that must be mentioned is the hats that women wear on Oaks and Derby Day. It is a tradition that the finest and most flamboyant of hats be worn these two days along with the most glorious and colorful dresses. This is a formal fling and the outfits will be worn to the many fancy parties thrown all over town on Friday night. The most well-known party is the Barnstable-Brown party which attracts all the media attention and celebrities from all over the country. Patricia Barnstable and her twin sister were the double mint gum twins from the sixties and they throw one extravaganza of a party every year at Derby time.
Carla and I always enjoy Friday nights above all others because they signify the end of the work week and the relaxation of the weekend. We both took part once again in the In the Now blog talk radio show with Monica L. The topic this week was Wanderers and how they awaken in third density and begin to find their service. Afterwards we shared the magic once again and were thrilled at the power. We went to sleep to WoodSongs Old Time Radio Hour where Nora Jones and the Little Willies played their country/rock/jazz style of music. I said the prayer at the Gaia Meditation tonight.

Carla and I did our Morning Offering and then got her ready for her day. Today is the second day with her new machine that does the same as the old wound VAC and we are so glad to have this therapy in place. It has caused a little more pain because it places the tubing back under the areas of her wound that are tunnels down into the body somewhat and that hurts more, but it also has a better chance of healing these areas.
My day was full of mowing and mowing and more mowing and it went well. And Derby week is well under way in Louisville. The Great Hot Air Balloon Race had to be cancelled last Saturday because the winds were too high but they did get the mini marathon road race completed. Monday saw the hospital bed race where teams of four to push and one to ride enter from the various hospitals and race down Broadway to the finish line. Then on Tuesday there was the Run for the Rose’ which pits servers from various restaurants carrying three glasses of wine race each other with the winner being the one with the combination of fastest time and most wine left in the glasses. Also that day the Run for the Rodents sees students from Bellarmine College racing their favorite lab rats with the winner getting a garland of fruit loops. Wednesday was the Great Steamboat Race with steamboats from Louisville, Cincinnati, and Memphis racing in the Ohio River. And tomorrow, Thursday will be the Pegasus Parade in which Cindy Lauper is the Grand Marshall. Friday will be Oaks Day at Churchill Downs and that is the Derby for fillies. Of course Saturday the Kentucky Derby will be run at about 6:20 pm as the eighth race on a ten race day. Then the parties will be held all over town with celebrities attending here and there and the average Joes having their own as well. When Sunday rolls around we will all breathe a collective sigh of relief and carry on with normal lives once again.
Gary was in the L/L office today and reported the following:
Swung by PO Box
Bring4th Moderator work on multiple fronts
Helped Carla with computer issue
Received sessions 20 and 21 of the Ra Contact relistening project from Michelle and sent her mp3’s of the next batch of five, sessions 15 – 19. She’s getting close!
Heard from Dr Mandelker who is joyfully roaming southeast Asia
Respond to different reader email including one wanderer story of a wanderer who recalls quite vividly an Egypt quite different than the one we know today, and places in the cosmos quite unlike the operation here on this planet
Began putting together a new issue of the “Gatherings Newsletter” which will announce, and open registration for, Homecoming 2012. Hope to get it out by early next week. Asked Carla if she was able to compose a few of its sections.
Carla and I enjoyed a block of NCIS on television and took a nap or two as well. The naps just kind of come on and we simply agree with them by falling asleep. Carla said the prayer at the Gaia Meditation tonight.

This is Carla, writing for Mick for one day only, since my computer, Traveler, is acting most peculiarly, and poor Mick had to quit and get to his day job!
We got up at first light and went through the Morning Offering, morning protocol for my various ointments and cleansers and breakfast before Mick sailed off to mow. He had a huge amount of work to do today, since the clearing project is very labor-intensive, and came home very ready for his bath! It is summery, humid and hazy, and I am sure the Mick Man lost a good five pounds of water weight today! But he takes a gallon of water treated with enzymes specifically for athletes out there sweating in the heat, so I know he stays hydrated.
Gary and I got together after he kindly fed me lunch to work on IMU students’ letters, which I enjoyed. I also wrote very short notes to several girlfriends, catching up my e-mail, and recorded a recipe for Shrimp Francesca, a nice appetizer with shrimp and artichoke hearts baked in a lemon-garlic sauce.
This was a big day because of changing from one kind of wound-vac to another. This one hurts a lot as they put the device in, more so than the previous machine did. This one is designed to get into the undermined area, and close those inner tunnels. So material must be place into those areas where the underminings are. That is an owie for sure! I will ask Dr. McCurry for more lidocain at dressing changes when I see him next week. So Farewell, Little Martha, the best wound-vac I ever knew, except of course for Little Sylvie, the new wound-vac!
The change-over procedure went well, and I think this change will be by far for the better. Here’s hoping with all my heart for early and positive results!
Sweet Aaron from California sent me a lovely note and bouquet, and Beverly from church dropped by with a small posy of roses. I wrote them thank you notes before I quit for the day.
After Mick arrived home and bathed we settled into a quiet evening, enjoying each other and a block of NCIS TV shows. Mick offered the closing prayer at the Gaia Meditation tonight.

The first day of May started off sunny and warm. It is now light when we get up and that makes it so much better psychologically for me. We did our Morning Offering and then got Carla ready for her day. Kathleen came by and verified some information concerning Carla’s wound and Janie at Dr. McCurry’s office got all the paperwork signed and faxed to Columbia so Carla can get her new machine tomorrow. We don’t know what to call it yet since wound VAC is a trade name and this machine works much the same but has the added feature of getting back into the “tunneling” of the wound, but we are thrilled to be getting it.
My mowing went quickly as I was racing the rain, I thought, but the rain held off and I was able to get another load of honeysuckle bushes cut and hauled away from my customer’s yard. Just one or two loads to go and that big project will be done. It’s like a jungle when I start a new area. The bushes grow closely together and are about ten feet tall and the tops are matted together with vines so I’m cutting in all directions to get everything down and any forgotten vines will remind me of them when I try to load the branches and they bring along friends.
Carla and I enjoyed some good television watching this evening and then topped off our experience by sharing the magic energy exchange once again. It was such a joy. Carla said the prayer at the Gaia Meditation tonight.
