Ra mentioned the Ezekiel's vision of the chariot (Merkabah/Merkavah/Mirkevet). This text became an important starting point in the Jewish mysticism (later Kabbalah). In this vision there were four divine beings and later in Christianity their faces were used as the symbols of the four gospels.

Quote:... As for the likeness of their faces, each had the face of a man; each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side, each of the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and each of the four had the face of an eagle. Thus were their faces...

Maybe these faces could also correspond to the four elements. Man - earth, eagle - air, lion - fire, ox - water.

Of the Four Elements, their Qualities, and Mutual Mixtions.
There are four Elements, and original grounds of all
corporeal things—Fire, Earth, Water, Air—of which
all elemented inferior bodies are compounded; not by
way of heaping them up together, but by transmutation
and union; and when they are destroyed they are
resolved into Elements. For there is none of the
sensible Elements that is pure, but they are more or
the rest of the Elements are changed, as into this, so
into one another successively. But it is the opinion of
the subtler sort of Philosophers, that Earth is not
changed, but relented and mixed with other Elements,
which do dissolve it, and that it returns back into
itself again.* Now, every one of the Elements hath
two specifical qualities—the former whereof it retains
as proper to itself; in the other, as a mean, it agrees
with that which comes next after it. For Fire is hot
and dry, the Earth dry and cold, the Water cold and
moist, the Air moist and hot. f And so after this manner
the Elements, according to two contrary qualities,
are contrary one to the other, as Fire to Water, and
Earth to Air.
less mixed, and apt to be changed one into the other:
Even as Earth becoming dirty, and being dissolved,
becomes Water, and the same being made thick and
hard, becometh Earth again; but being evaporated
through heat, passeth into Air, and that being kindled,
passeth into Fire ; and this being extinguished, returns
back again into Air; but being cooled again after its
burning, becomes Earth, or Stone, or Sulphur, and this
is manifested by Lightning. Plato also was of that
opinion, that Earth was wholly changeable, and that

Quote:Cherubim

‘The cherubim are winged creatures, but the form of them does not resemble that of any living creature seen by man’ (Josephus).

They signify presence of divinity and are guardians of the sacred and of the threshold.

As tetramorphs cherubim are the quaternary of elemental powers guarding the centre of Paradise which is inaccessible to the unregenerate man.

They combine the bull (Taurus), lion (Leo), eagle (Scorpio), and man (Aquarius), symbolizing the four elements, the four corners of the earth and, in Christianity, the four Evangelists.

After the Seraphim they are the highest of the nine orders of angels.

In heraldry a cherub is depicted as a child’s head (purity and innocence) between a pair of wings (spiritual nature).

Yahweh is 'enthroned’ upon the cherbuim’ (I Sam. 4,4).

The throne of the Temple of Jerusalem in the Holy of Holies was flanked by two cherubim and the throne was formed by their wings.

In certain occult conventions they are considered to be the ruling intelligences of the Four Elements of Malkuth. Note the Zodiacal associations are all Fixed.

Agrippa is a particularly close life to me. This is an alchemical approach to understanding of the Elements but Agrippa covered a lot of ground so doesn't have a lot of context on its own, however there is some very key information in this passage.

Yes they correspond to the fixed Zodiacal signs (as Aion mentioned) which then correspond to the elements.

Man = Aquarius = Air
Eagle = Scorpio = Water
Bull = Taurus = Earth
Lion = Leo = Fire

The Eagle is attributed to Water. Scorpio has a few symbols: the scorpion, the serpent, and the eagle.
