John E. Mack - Transcending the Dualistic Mind (transpersonal psychology)

Enjoyed the video. Mack knew too well that there tend to be multiple aspects to the "reality" of the phenomena:

1) Literal
2) Individual psychological
3) Biology, phylogeny and collective unconscious
4) Metaphysical/symbolic
5) Mythico/religious
6) Some combination of above

Some examples of these:
1) the circumstantial, historical, causal, measurable, in-your-face
2) personal mind - the imagination, hopes/fears, complexes, allegory, biases, synchronicities, one's valuing system, world view
3) collective mind - patterns related to physical life, instinctual needs, group apprehensions
4) mind - archetypal influences of mind, epitomizations, representations, strange attractors, Plato's forms
5) spirit - transcendence, salvation, spiritual seeking

Because in our experience we can not truly separate these aspects of reality, each of these aspects are intrinsically related to the phenomena themselves. I think we'd gain the most from a "holistic" treatment of the problem, where consideration would be given to how these various aspects contribute to how we understand and relate to the phenomena.
