in Ra's system, the three Transformation Cards represent the 6th level, or roughly represent the indigo level of understanding.

they are:

the Transformation of Mind: the Lovers card
the Transformation of Body: the Death card
the Transformation of Spirit: the Judgement card

now, these 3 cards are pretty imposing straight off the bat. They call to mind energies which lead us through a 'gateway', after which we will never be the same again. One could also see these energies as those of 'initiation'.

but why are we studying this stuff anyway? of what use is it?

in the end, all we have are thoughts; and those thoughts then translate into what we know of as the body complex, or affect the linkage and connection we have with the spirit complex.

I might embellish this a tad.  Once the Transformation Cards are understood and acted upon, then . . . the self teaching process can be greatly accellerated.  It's not enough to know what the Death card means.  The remarkable transformation occurs when the card is lived.  To know that we are eternal spirit and that death is merely a transformation does not, by itself, accellerate learning.  But living fearless, day by day, knowing in each moment that any one of them could be your very last in this body, that kind of thinking naturally loses the fear.  You become bold, experiment, act impulsively.  And doing these crazy out-there things will bring in a whole new world of experience/catalyst (which will be just the right for you) and cause you to grow.  So, yes, understanding is essential.  But having the understanding without acting upon it is just potential for acceleration.  IMHO.
