I remember coming across this particular analogy a few years ago.
It runs like this:
* that our Mind creates the template for our reality and existence, and then this is projected into the Real World as experience
* like a movie screen, once the image is projected, it is pretty hard to change. I guess you can draw on the movie screen if you want, but it is much easier to make changes to the movie reel being projected
* changing the movie reel is the same as changing the Contents of Consciousness. Your expectations, your anxieties, your hopes, your plans

so the only real effective way of changing reality and your existence is by changing (purifying/balancing) the contents of Mind. This will then be projected out as a more beautiful picture/actions in the world automatically.
it also evoked an old Latin saying:
"Caelum, non animum, mutant, qui trans mare currunt." (Those who run off across the sea change their climate but not their mind. -Horace, Espistles)
(I think Mr David Icke presented this in an informal talk one day.)
