The Great Sequence of Light is how I refer to the 7 Spirit Archetypes of the Tarot. They are, quite simply:

Devil, Tower, Star, Moon, Sun, Judgement, Cosmos

the three archetypes in bold represent LIGHT most clearly, but all 7 in this sequence represent an increasing ability to work with Light, which is the Stuff of the universe.

the Devil is the beginning. It has been referred to as 'Darkness', or the absence of Light. I see it as Incipient Awareness, or the mind becoming aware that there is more than the body, that there is more than the flittering of thoughts in consciousness. There is something 'else' that defines this universe that we all exist in. This 'else' would be the spirit, or the Faculty of Light.

the Tower is more fully referred to as The Lightning Struck Tower. It is a flash of insight in the depths of Night, one that reveals the landscape in a cold rainy, unfamiliar place. We see the lightning for the first time, and feel most inspired. There is more to learn and discover on this path!

the Star is just one speck of Light in the sky; yet it is more constant, yet less bright, than the Lightning we saw the previous night. It is a guiding light; one that we will never reach out and touch, yet offers us comfort and solace nevertheless.

the Moon, when fully lit, is almost a light bright enough to read by. We can come to discern the true/accurate interpretation of a thing seen/perceived; but this is a slow process. Much like the Moon waxes and wanes, becomes fuller, and then less, mastering this archetype takes patience, and necessary involves joy, and its opposite, disappointment.

the Sun represents that steadiness of Light which illuminates all, for what it is. It does not deceive, it just gives, equally to all. This is the Significator of the Spirit, the essence of what is Light.

Judgement I will not speak of. It is a difficult card, although it has been written about elsewhere.

the Cosmos is the culmination point; when one appreciates, and can work with, Light in its very essence. The Cosmos speaks to the fact that ALL IS LIGHT; and that there is nothing else. This is the Great Way of the Spirit, and represents direct contact with Intelligent Infinity;

as one can see, although these are Archetypes of the Spirit, in essence they represent teachings that the Mind needs to incorporate to interface properly with the Spirit. So it is not the spirit/spirit complex that is taught; it is developing the interface that the Mind has with spirit.

you know how you have a cable that connects two things, like your computer to a modem? these 7 Archetypes develop and clear that interface that the Mind has with Spirit.

so why do this?

the body is what we see, the mind is what we think with; the spirit is that third great component of self which connects us beyond the individualised being; the spirit connects one entity to another, connects one entity to the earth, connects one entity to the Sun, connects one entity to the Logos itself. The Spirit is that faculty which enables a felt sense of Unity itself.

I offer this in the highest Joy; thank you Smile
