"Scientists found that coconut oil which had been treated with enzymes stopped the growth of Streptococcus bacteria - a major cause of tooth decay. "

I could imagine the hassle of putting that on your teeth every day.
Perhaps they'll incorporate it in some sort of toothpaste.
Coconut oil is seriously good for us.
anyone heard of oil pulling?

it's like using coconut oil for a mouthwash (maybe swish for a couple of minutes).

someone here recommended it for me for my yellow teeth lol.

leaves a pleasant taste in the mouth at the very least, although one spits it all out because the oil (apparently) gets infused with bacteria and other nasties.

I heard you can use baking soda to get whiter teeth :

thanks Meerie. but isn't that stuff used for cleaning ovens?? Tongue

I might get whiter teeth, but I might lose my tongue in the process lol.

Meerie

I tried it yesterday, and my teeth and tongue are still there.. Tongue
I didn't even bother to dilute it, lol.
Just read now how it should be done.
to get back on topic: coconut oil is awesome! a woman knowledgeable in ayurveda once recommended it to me as a skin lotion. It is good for pitta types.
That reminds me, I should get some Smile
Edgar Cayce recommended using salt and soda as toothpaste. Half salt, half baking soda. I've tried it and it does whiten the teeth. It can be a little hard on the gums, though, unless the salt is very finely milled.
Homemade Coconut Oil Toothpaste

My wife makes her own coconut paste that is sweet, but I have not gotten the recipe from her yet.

"If your sea salt is course, you can run it through a coffee grinder to make it powdery. You want it to be as fine as possible."

Hi coco fans.

Here are other major good effects of the oil.

Dr. Newport's effective work on memory loss and Alzheimer's with coconut oil.
It's in 7 parts.

Oil pulling dramatically improved our teeth and gums! Highly recommended. It feels weird at first but you get used to it. We use either coconut, sesame or sunflower oil. Any unrefined oil will work.

Here is the absolute best coconut oil!

I bought this brand and another brand many years ago, then quit using them. About 5 years later, I found both containers in the back of my cupboard, forgotten. The other brand was totally rancid, but the Coconut Oil Supreme brand was still perfectly fine! I was sold, and have stuck with this brand ever since.

I make my own toothpaste with baking soda, essential oils of tee tree and peppermint. I am going to try adding coconut oil.

I can't stand regular toothpaste--even Tom's now, since I have been making my own (for years). Has anyone noticed how commercial toothpaste makes you gag sometimes? Why? You're not supposed to swallow it. This is something to consider.
in south africa the africans have wonderful white, cavity free teeth and they brush with salt only. I brush with Himalayan salt and follow with a quick brush of hydrogen peroxide.

Oh and I love coconut oil. I buy organic coconut oil and organic shea butter and mix together for my skin. I also cook with them on occassion.

The oil pulling, although effective I'm sure, sounds really gag-worthy. I felt the first twinges of a hurl coming on just reading about it.

Meerie

Hydrogen peroxide? is that the stuff used for making perms?
Huh
and do you put the salt on the toothbrush undiluted?
I've heard a lot of benefits that coconut oil can give so I believe that this is true.
