A distraction is something that keeps you from fulfilling your truest desires so far that you become prevented from even accomplishing them. This is the state of most humanity as we have found many gadgets to avoid our desires that cannot be presently fullfilled.

What humanity must face is that all attachments cannot be initially fulfilled nor feasibly reached within a certain period of time -- or possibly ever.

Humanity has allowed itself to become so attached to its expectations, social pressures and obstacles that it does not see the value in finding gratitude in what it is inherently given. The key to enlightenment and happiness is not the seeking of mastering attachments nor truly following them out of the pain their unfullfillment brings but valuing the present moment and preparing for the moment to follow by seeking gratitude of the creator within what currently exists. This is an art that is mastered by few of this plane and if found will reward one with much more fullfillment than can be found by the endless seeking of said fullfillment.

The problem of seeking distractions and avoidance will be eased once the pain of unfullfillment can be endured with satisfaction of the present moment. What most know as passivity and inaction is a state of great stress and desire that is not satied by acceptance and acknowledgement of the self.

TLDR: The staircase of life is best sought by the valuing of its steps, not the last step alone.
