just because she was given silence doesn't mean we don't love her and forgive her. isn't that kinda how these things should be done? she wanted the crowd to be less scary, and they were, noone said anything bad to her. if she had shame it reflected her empathy.

not necessarily meant as such, but i think it was a gift in that it allowed her to reflect on her actions without feeling defensive. and it was a non violent response. pretty amazing.

I think it was better they were silent, than duct-taped.
(by the way, I got the impression she rather enjoyed the cameras ... wearing perfect make-up and her hair looked like she just been to the hairdressers - I bet she spent hours getting all dressed up, before stepping outside

It's more that she was being offered catalyst. I have to disagree with you on this topic, monkey, as it seems you are writing off the ignorance of spiritual catalyst as something that's totally cool. I don't think it's something we should strive for based on my understandings of Ra's teaching. Catalyst is to be processed rather than ignored.
Here's how it played out: she had a responsibility to speak at a news conference. The students wanted to face her as she is refusing (for the most part) to take much responsibility for her actions. She refused to leave and insinuated that the students were keeping her hostage, while they chanted "we are peaceful" outside the building. Finally, when she came out, she was forced to face nothing more than the humanity outside that waited for her. The students had their own rights to face this woman and let her know their feelings. They did so respectfully, but that does not mean she should be coddled. She is getting what she deserves; an opportunity to see her choices for what they are rather than through the 3D filter of self-rationalization.
This lady wanted nothing more than to forget about all this. She wanted to walk to her car in her blissful ignorance that sometime soon this will all go away. She wanted to fool herself (and you seem happy to fool her as well). How is this something to promote?

I think it was more of a "you threw a ball through my window, boy - now look me in the eye and say you're sorry!" type thing but the child is yelling at the old man (woman) instead. I think the students wanted to be acknowledged by their Chancellor and were being treated as if they were a threat to her, which was unfair and uncalled for (they were the victims - not the abusers!)
At the end of the day, which is better - that she face the catalyst of a crowd she is obligated towards or that she be able to maintain her delusions of innocence for the sake of her pride? In my books, when you are willing to hold a high-level public office position like a university chancellor, you don't act like a stubborn and shy 7 year old girl when things get heated; you act like a professional and do what you need to do. Remember, she asked for the responsibility of leadership before anything else, and ended up abusing that power against the interest of those she was to protect.

The thing about the silence is that it is completely open to interpretation of the personal mind. It's a blank expression. She will apply any meaning she wants to it. If it brings out shame, it is not because they are screaming "SHAME!" She's confronted with her own mind.
