So when we die or NDE, our current state of mind will determine what we see (heaven-like or hellish)?
Or is it unconsciously influenced?

That is a bit of a loaded question.
It is unconsciously influenced, however, that is the whole point of increasing one's awareness and consciousness. The more conscious you work to become, the less the unconscious influences your direction.
However, keep in mind that "unconscious" influences are still you.
