Inspiring films - Phoenix - 01-08-2015

There are now 2012 threads in the 'life on planet earth' part of the forum.

Any films people think are useful/ interesting on their path.

I watched Lord of the Rings recently:

Quote:Samwise Gamgee: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. [watching the Nazgûl flying away] It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo; the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end... because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was, when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.Frodo Baggins: What are we holding on to, Sam?Samwise Gamgee: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for

Also, there is a scene from Taken, the Steven Spielberg mini series, where one of the characters breaks down and says this, the point here is the backdrop of their actually being something more positive in the room and there is a 'process' going on:

Quote:I'm not the one who has the explaining to do. Gale's son explain that. Explain cancer, explain war, explain the whole damn thing to me just one time, so I can understand why everything has to be so hard.

That's not how I feel though. Just an interesting quote that sums up a kind of 'background noise' of planet earth.

Quotes, stories, concepts?

RE: Inspiring films - Shawnna - 01-08-2015

I enjoyed the Imitation Game, the Theory of Everything and Unbroken recently. Smile

I love watching films based on true stories. The challenges and triumphs other have faced.

We've always been a movie-going family.
