I would add a small but significant letter to that phrase and say life is A serious play. That way it may in fact be serious but ultimately it IS a play. A play of wonder, chaos, sorrow, and beauty

To me life is not a serious thing, but it does seems so for other-selves. I would not mind not being at all, but there I am being something.
