Tool isn't on Spotify - Plenum - 02-26-2017
a couple of folks have mentioned over the years how Tool is a very 'spiritual' band.
Unfortunately, given my favourite new listening 'tool' - Spotify - they aren't represented. One of the few bands/artists holding out.
So that's a shame. I would really have liked to have explored their catalogue that way. I see that a lot of their stuff is present on youtube - maybe in an unofficial fashion

Yes, they resented Spotify specifically once, saying it doesn't pay fairly or do any favors for new and local artist.
They also are not present in iTunes music, although purchasable in the iTunes store. They seemingly intentionally avoid streaming services, *except* YouTube, which they seem to allow (maybe encourage) people to upload their material to.
Tool is among my favorites as well
The Patient is my favorite song, I really wish I they were available on either Spotify or iTunes music so I could add them to my playlists and experiment with them and alike soundscapes.

For newer bands/albums I still buy new cds. But because it costs a fortune to explore all the great albums of established bands, I've started buying used cds, which generally cost $1-4 usd. Perhaps that's something you could look into.

It's really Maynard James Keenan, the singer and lyrics writer, who is the deep thinker. He also has another band, A Perfect Circle. I recommend their CD Thirteenth Step.

I remember the days of cassette tapes, and how the music would slowly 'degrade' over time.
And get tangled.
I was sure glad when it switched to CD's, and then to rips.
I couldn't go back to physical media.
Appreciate the thoughts though. But I can't even comprehend doing that. Almost like writing out a Bring4th Post on paper, then sending it to L/L Research to post for me.
chalk it up to a late 1970's child who has 'seen the Light'

I do have fond memories of 'real books' though. I had a nice filled bookshelf at one stage, with some real treasures.

yeah, unless you're using FLACs to store (and stream) your audio, anything else is quite degraded.
Neil Young did an interview with Marc Maron where he just lays into the MP3 file format, (amongst a whole bunch of other stuff he talked about).

If you have something against torrent, I have the whole discography, I could send you all that you want. Of course if you like it, it's definitely better to buy afterwards. There is definitely something magical about having a physical collection. I buy all albums that I really like. To me it's like I'm building a library of concentrated awesomeness.
Tool is among by music library. If you are just beginning to explore I would suggest the last two albums: 10 000 days / Lateralus. They're all very good but the last two are much more mature, more spiritual and have more vibe to it. I would suggest listening to an entire album at once to create the desired experience as it was intended. Also this isn't the kind of music you can all absorb in a single listen, repeated listens are always key for this kind of stuff so the mind can relate.
But of course sometimes you don't have time and would like just an idea of 2-3 songs on youtube. In this case I would say check out these songs which are more likely to be the center piece around which they built the albums:
Vicarious
Jambi
The pot
Rosetta Stoned
The Grudge
Schism
Parabola
Lateralus
Sober
I would say although the singer thinks about the concepts and the lyrics, he's probably the less present member in the music. Tool is mostly about rhythms and vibe and they are definitely spiritual. Danny Carey, the drummer is very inspired by complex indian tabla rhythms and it gives a very esotheric/ethereal vibe to it combined with the groovy bass.
If you happen to like this kind of stuff, I have many tool-inspired or other kind of progressive music band in my collection I could share with you.

I understand this fully.
I think stuff like spotify is quite nice for a user.
But for an artist it really sucks!
The only ones making Money are spotify, the payment for artists is ridiculous!
I'd rather see people share music on torrents for free, than all the money going to These greedy people :/

Ugh, I can't stand Spotify. I'd rather use Soundcloud to share my music and not make any real money. I'd like to grow my vinyl collection because a lot of bands are still doing that, or CD for local artists.

That stuff like Spotify is paying musicians so lousy, except youre Madonna maybe, its simply impossible to even get enough to pay the production let alone to make a living of that
When these kinds of things spread more widely, we will have only hobby musicians left in 10 years, and maybe a handfull of superstars...

The band I want to get the two vinyls, Haken for those interested, I read right before the launch of their 5th album that each member has to have a second job because they can't live from their music.
They are so wonderful and probably have a solid fanbase so that's truly sad.
