RE: Futuristic/fourth density inventions and ideas thread - sjel - 03-23-2017 a book that detects which word your eyes are focused on, and plays the corresponding note or chord that the author programmed to play on that word. You would wear headphones or have speakers. Essentially the author does double work, writing the book and also writing the electronic symphony that accompanies it. So for example at a tense part of the book, the notes might be atonal or suspenseful, and each word would add some little flourish or direction to the overall theme at that part. As the story reached a climax, the music would slowly build to a peak until it reached the words: "And then he died." It would be adjusted to your reading speed, so maybe the first few pages wouldn't have much detail, to sense how fast a reader you were. If you read slow, two or three words might be the equivalent amount of music as the fast reader's one word. If you skipped around the page with your eyes, you could shape the symphony to your whim, because the notes all would flow into each other It would take incredibly precise electronics and musical awareness to be able to program this. I think it would be interesting if the book also had an 'auto' mode so it improvises based on where you are reading and try to match it with the emotional mood it detects from you.
