I hung out with this owlet last night at Javie Hollow (a tiny pond in my backyard). It was a bit challenging holding a flashlight and my phone to get the photo. But the owlet just let me photograph it while it drank water and flew up into the tree that overhangs the pond.
This is Shorty (because he had lost his tail when I first knew him), a lizard I've known for several years. He hangs out on my patio in the summer. Every year his markings get more beautiful. It doesn't show well here but he has shades of viridian in places and the yellowish scales are actually really bright yellow. Here he is resting after his favorite snack—watermelon. When I open the door sometimes he runs to me so fast for the watermelon he has to skid to a stop.
