Thích Nhất Hạnh - Wikipedia
I remember seeing his name and photos in book stores.
He was a famed Vietnamese Buddhist monk, and I haven't read any of his books but wonder if anyone has? He wrote very many, and established a Buddhist temple in France.
It seems his story is a complicated one. Hue the city where he was from in North Vietnam was once the capital of Vietnam for a very long time until 1945 when it changed to Hanoi. He had problems with both the north and South vietnamese, as Catholics sought to oppress Buddhism or solely promote Catholics positions of power in South Vietnam, while the communists of north Vietnam detested religion or any form of spirituality as it is a theme of their ideology to be atheist.
Ngo Dinh Diem - Wikipedia
I say it is a complicated story because the French, Catholics and other western powers had a long struggle with vietnam, far longer than the American war dating back centuries.
Catholic Church in Vietnam - Wikipedia
The church is improving its relationship with the Holy See and there are others pages you can find about the topic but Thich Nhat Hanh is definitely a name I remember.
