Sometimes when someone says something, it is not the words you hear. Sometimes your own experiences might get in the way, or your religion, or your past, or whatever. And you take those words and you turn them into something that makes you feel bad, or angry, because you are not hearing the words, you are hearing what you think the words mean and even sometimes you think the words mean nothing, and that makes you feel bad, too.
Someone said to me the other day: "Take care." People say that all the time, and I usually take it to mean nothing, especially if it came from this particular person. But this time I heard the words and, more than that, I heard that it came from his heart and that he really wanted to say more but didn't have the ability to voice it. These were the first honest words this person has spoken to me in a long time. I was grateful that I could recognize that.
