Hello lightworker, we used to have visitations a while back which resulted in a lot of felt tension, moving shadows around the house, sounds, nightmares as well as other mild but strange occurrences around the house. Although I believe it is normal for entities to come and go (private property is a very human concept after all), if you feel one sticks, it might be good to help it move on, especially if it disturbs your day to day life.
When I understood I could do something about visitations, I proceeded to light up a candle on a low table which is still permanently on (we do our best to transfer the flame to a new candle every 5 days) over a year and a half later. I also use incense and whenever I light it up, I whisper a short personal prayer, asking for peace, light and purification of my home, also thanking the spirits who help me on my journey. Using sage is also a good way to purify a space; light it up and walk around the house with it, sharing your intent for it to become a place of love and light. When it comes to the spirit itself, when you feel it, instead of encouraging it to stay through fear, anger or fascination, I would suggest to try visualizing it in your mind, and then visualize yourself sending it light and love. What I usually do is wrap a beautiful blanket of light around passing spirits I feel, and I share with them love as well as healing. Sometimes, I will even imagine myself kissing them on the forehead and hugging them, especially if I feel they might be trying to scare me. In my experience, after being surrounded by light for a few seconds or minutes, they dissipate and I cannot feel them anymore. I almost never have visitations anymore but when I do, they are not very strong, nothing like they used to be 1-2 years ago. My home is now a sanctuary of light and all who cross its threshold will receive light and love, regardless of who or what they are.
There is more than one way to proceed when it comes to wandering spirits but this is mine, and it works for me. My advice in any case would be to follow your intuition and open your heart. Some people become aggressive and try to banish spirits with anger but, in my opinion, that is only fighting fire with fire. You may end up giving them fuel that way too. In my experience, giving love has never let me down as a method to help them move on (whether it is through the light or simply away from my home).
Good luck
