I know we have to eat to survive but I still feel like eating plant life is eating life in general.
Ultimately, we have to eat other life in order to survive, like you wrote. There isn't really any way around that, unless you are able to achieve what some adepts have, where you no longer consume food. How feasible is such a feat though? And on top of that, is it really necessary? Observer, my main advice would be to not worry about it, as simple as that sounds. You have gone vegetarian, and that in and of itself is a big step and sign of your intent, and I think that is great. It is no small feat. My personal opinion is that for plants, offering themselves up as sustenance so that another life form can continue its existence, is an act of great service for them. Like a mission accomplished, a joyous thing. And I think a good response to such an act of service is gratitude, and what better way to do that than to enjoy and feel good about the food you are eating.
