A full moon only can happen when the moon is on the opposite side of the earth from the sun...so an eclipse can only take place when the moon is full, or very nearly so.
And solar eclipses for the exact same reasoning only happen on the new moon

21st, that's tomorrow. It's going to be quite intense if all those things are in alignment right? Makes sense too, the motion for the star around the galactic center takes a long time, so december 21st this year will be similar to december 21st 2012... I'm no astrologician. Does that mean the energy will do similar things?
