There will be a total lunar eclipse on the night of December 20-21 2010. It will be visible from all of North America (assuming clear skies). The full extent should be at about 8:16AM Greenwich Mean time, which I think translates into 3:16AM EST.

It's not common to have a total lunar eclipse coincide with a winter solstice. I have no knowledge of astrology, but I suspect that some here do. Might any significance be attributed to these events occurring nearly synchronously?

Not a great astronomist, but it sounds neat! I'll check it out!

It is the longest night of the year, the turning point for the seasons. An eclipse is symbolic of change or transition, this eclipse occur in a very interesting transitional period. Great potential for new developments in the shadows of the longest night.

The positions I use are not really what astrology would use but I will share what I find through Astronomy.

The Sun is going to be in the direction of the galactic center on the winter solstice from Earths perspective (which is in front of the Sagittarius bow). The Moon will be sitting at the antigalactic center, totally opposite of the Suns direction, and will be sitting in between Taurus and Gemini right above Orion. The Moon actually sits on the cusp of Taurus and Orion for the Lunar Eclipse and then will ride this Orion cusp for 3 days. The Sun rides this same cusp every year for 3 days as well, right around the Summer Solstice (of course opposite of winter solstice). And dont forget the winter solstice is linked to the Sun 'seeming' to die and rise again after 3 days.

So as we enter the day of the 21st...we have galactic center, the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon all aligned very nicely in a line for the Lunar Eclipse. It can be noted that the gateway towards the galactic center has been called the 'gateway of the gods' while the opposite gateway in the sky, above Orion (between Taurus and Gemini) has been called the 'gateway of man'.

I think its the perfect alignment to take your choices to the heavens. Take them with a honest heart.

Thats awesome, lunar eclipse during, or almost during, a solstice, sounds significant.

Everything is synchronicity. This is a significant alignment.

I would agree with litllady entirely...

A full moon only can happen when the moon is on the opposite side of the earth from the sun...so an eclipse can only take place when the moon is full, or very nearly so.

I am participating in the Winter Solstice as one of the many voices full of LOVE speaking and sending LOVE out into the World and toward the HEARTS of Humanity. We are the ones we have been waiting for. There is no one else. Just us-- the Collective Body of Humanity--- which you, who are reading this, is part of.

And solar eclipses for the exact same reasoning only happen on the new moon Smile

21st, that's tomorrow. It's going to be quite intense if all those things are in alignment right? Makes sense too, the motion for the star around the galactic center takes a long time, so december 21st this year will be similar to december 21st 2012... I'm no astrologician. Does that mean the energy will do similar things?

"Does that mean the energy will do similar things?"

From a personal limited perspective....there are opportunities that are more in tune and focus for certain times then others. Its not so much that the energies will bring force or cause things...but that the opportunity to set your path, be sure footed, send healing and love or receiving divine light for energy and love, will be more easy to tap into. Likewise, there is duality that can be had as well. Some may choose to focus on the 'shadow' that covers the moon....or the shadow that covers their inner true nature. The cosmos are offering a time to reflect from our busy world that is full of distractions...there are times where the cosmos or the world around us offer us a time to reflect and this is a beautiful time to do so.

Some things the world offers us for reflection birds flying in synch with eachother....the synch of a child laughing which spreads like a contagious mystery making others smile and laugh, or the synch of Spring and flowers blooming and seeds bursting forth.....it just so happens we have one heck of a great synch tomorrow in the cosmos and we can use that for reflection and intaking and sending energies with the divine light from the central sun or the shadow covering of the moon. There will be those that use this for dark purpose and there will be those that use it for love.

What I am feeling is that with so many that have been choosing the path of compassion to others and hope for the world and mankind...that maybe for ONCE...the mass of humans choosing love during this snych will over ride those that choose the synch for dark reasons. Maybe...the love will out number the lack of love, for ONCE. Maybe we can create a 'first fruit' in a way...with many having the same focus of 'hope and healing' moreso then those that use it in hope of chaos and destruction.

It is a good time to know your path and know what you live for...but so is every other day good for this.

As the spheres align nicely, we can try to align ourselves too. Its a opportunity (at least that is my, limited understanding).
Ide like to suggest to those that wish to send energies out...do to so for several days. As the Sun 'stands still' for 3 days...the Moon travels the cusp of Orion for 3 days.....pull through these 3 days with your intentions for the world and man. Maybe even choose a time of day for the next 3-4 days that you dedicate to just focusing on the divine light reaching man....that positive vibrations are raised and received, allowing Earth to soak up light to heal and mankind to soak it up too. You dont have to wear yourself out....just true intent and a humble heart and a 'thought' of love daily for the next several days is all you need to do.

I believe there are vibration holders here....and now is their time to hold that.

This is the second time a full lunar eclipse has occurred on the winter solstice in recorded history, the previous was 372 years ago. It is anticipated again in 2094.

Eddie I know how you feel.... but at least you woke up by yourself and did not get torn out of sleep by the alarm. I remember the last big lunar eclipse here a couple years ago, I set the alarm and when I woke up, bleary-eyed, everything was cloudy outside and I could not get sleep for the rest of the night Sad
So now I have stopped setting alarms when these events occur... I either wake up or not. Besides skies here are mostly cloudy anyway...
I think you can see the event at huffingtonpost - they had a live stream there.

I tried to stay awake and actually watched the moon for an hour outside while I shoveled snow late last night... and then I just got soooo tired. I could not stay awake. I plan to see it on youtube when I can find an uploaded vid.

I did a meditation last night as well (at least until Hubby came home from work) I got about 1/2 way through.

This was great ffg, thanks for posting it!

I saw the beginning of the eclipse, but didn't stay awake for the whole event.

If you post the vid when you find it, I will really appreciate that...I'll do the same if I find one.

We all went outside and watched the whole event, for about an hour, until the Light of the Moon was obscured by shadow.

We did a ceremony for about 15 minutes towards the end, the theme of which was the dance of energies in that space between Illumination/Light/Fire and Reflection/Shadow Self/Emotions. I felt the energies palpably!

As did I. I noticed that the person who I was with, who is still unable to move to the higher vibrations, found herself physically nauseous (though of course did not put it together that it was the energy).

I found myself moved to a state of joy/bliss, where I remain today. Smile I also did a meditation session once the moon began moving into penumbra.

    Pere--
I remember when I first began working with higher energies I would get sick and vomit. I always felt immensely better after barfing. The headache would immediately go away and my mood would suddenly be joyous. Each time the energy sickness would become less and less... until I was fully acclimated. Now I no longer get sick. Thankfully, I have moved beyond that little experience.

I just finished a lovely meditation. Ahhh... I am just buzzing with Joy! --fairy

I live Cape Town, SA (for which i feel extremely lucky) and as summer has come round, from around mid october, there'd 3-6 days sunshine, then 1-3 days of heavyish rain, usually in bursts of showers. then, in the last 2-3 weeks, its basically all sunshine, yesterday (21st dec) i couldn't remember when i last saw any significant cloud cover. My wife and I both agreed yesterday (and the day before, somewhat) that the heat itself felt somewhat different, as it felt hotter than the past week, yet less intense.

Then today, i wake up to total cloud cover, as far as i can see and in every direction. Definitely something going there imo, so i give praise to this wondrous sync of Mother Earth.

Also, although I've yet to unlock any tangible 4D "powers", i can focus my attention on any part my body and feel it "flare up" from the inside (totally at will, though its easier certain areas than others). yesterday, however, parts of my body were constantly "flaring up" all day, particularly when my body was still, and very much if i wasn't thinking about "ordinary stuff". today, it feels like a constant hum, and my gut tells me its here to stay, if not getting stronger.
