There are different groups of aliens that take that generally similar form (whether that form is experienced as solid or 'astral'). Some are robots, some aren't. Some are 'positive', some aren't. However, it seems that their intent, when dealing with people, is transparent and broadcast 'telepathically'. Not sure which types are 'robots', but I'd suspect they are the physical type.
