Cruising the randomness of 4chan.org, I came across a post for this fundamentalist Baptist site. It reminded me, I take this warm community for granted many times, I think.

    http://www.landoverbaptist.net/forumdisp...c18dd&f=15

What are your thoughts? I'll start:
    http://www.landoverbaptist.net/showthread.php?t=80403

"Is There a Just God? Yes, 39 Hindu Pilgrims Dead!'"

Whenever people come up to me and ask how I know there is a just God, I pull out a 3 X 5 card with the news I saw that morning. Every day there is always an incident where God has made a judgement call.

This morning it was about a bus crash in Napal....

(Now read the responses to this post. How cruel...)

Growing up, I was in many a southern Christian church. Looking back, the service-to-self mentality was intense... Or with mixed messages, at best.
It just hurts, literally, to witness a chosen path of radiating wrath towards others.

Just spend three minutes on this site and post your thoughts.
    ... Love and light.

Landover Baptist church per se, does not exist except as a website. it is a satire created by the same guys who created South Park. It's totally satire and meant to be laughed at, with an underlying aim of pointing out how far off the mark fundamentalists can be. Kinda like The Onion aimed at fundamentalist values.

Waiwait. I wondered if it could have been, but there's too many people going back and forth on topics, on it. You really can't tell! Nevermind then.

This is true, kdsii, it is hard to tell especially now. They started it in the late '90's and so many people believed it was real that now the creators just post their satirical articles and blogs and such and let those who follow it say what they will. It is, as Patrick says, excellent catalyst.

i think it's rather sad that so many people really believe it.

You ever been to a -real- baptist church? Watched Jesus Camp?
With such extreme xenophobia really out there, you can't tell what's satire.
I've sat through services that talk as if Americans are the only -real- people, and Jesus wasn't American 'cause it wasn't invented yet.

    Really, you can't tell.

That site is probably the best laughs I have ever found. I had reposted some of the concepts they have brought up as a way to fling absurdity in the face of religion. They really focus on the cognitive deficiencies.BigSmile

I don't know that "justice" is a word the really means anything. It may have something to do with the idea of a zero sum universe, in which there is only so much to go around, so whenever one person takes something there is less for everyone else. In my mind, that's a flawed premise.

LOL...I grew up sitting on the hard benches of central Texas Bible Belt Baptist Churches. Been to many a hellfire n' brimstone tent preacher show. Been saved more times than I want to consider...though, back in those days, I probably needed all the help I could get.

After awhile though, thinking adults just move down different paths.

"Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of Fundamentalism that SOMEONE won't mistake for the real thing."

Wow, there's a meme for that. hahahah

Some of the groups that things like this website parody are worth study. I find the Westboro baptists church to be quite interesting. It's just one family aligned against anything that isn't an immediate blood relation . . . and even then there are some exceptions. Seems as close as you can get to 99% service to self if you ask me.

Wouldn't that be a great approach, actually? to look at all the fundamentalist hate being spewn in the world, as some kind of satire and not take it seriously?
Because in the end, we are all being part of this cosmic game and none of this is real anyways...
I am reminded of this movie right now, with Roberto Benigni, who is in the concentration camp with his son. In all that horror that surrounds them, he manages to convince his son that it is a game that is being played.

This scenario, while I've pondered it often, is wishful thinking.
Those rooted in a fearful universe where there's only so much room in heaven, only so many hugs God can give,
and where Jesus died to pay a debt means that many -in- this fear are too far down to wake up.

I was blocked after about 5 posts on their site BigSmile they didn't like the fact that I said "idiot" and asked the one man if his husband knew he was on the internet.

Oh, and I was told exactly how I was going to burn in hell. It was very amusing.

    Hello kdsii,

I will try to offer you my two cents. And please feel free to dismiss this advice if you deem it improper.

First, try to view 'others' as mirror to yourself. When you see someone or something very challenging that literally get on your nerve this means that this is a part of your shadow self that you have not integrated; that you cannot still love. Hence the catalyst present itself for you to face it, when you are ready to deal with it.

In your case, you mentionned the following:

"Growing up, I was in many a southern Christian church. Looking back, the service-to-self mentality was intense"

First, you have to forgive yourself for this. Once this is really forgiven, you will be able to forgive others. My guess is that you have not yet totally accepted, nor forgiven yourself here.

STS or STO or no choice is totally fine. To approach the creator by closeness or by negation is totally valid. The Creator give total free will for each entity to experience itself.

The positive path is a path of utter acceptance of everything, because everything is the One Creator. The measure of a minds evolution is its acceptance of the unacceptable.

"You are every thing, every being, every emotion, every event, every situation"
