I had this thought about these machines.
Universal translators if you will.
The concept is well known in certain Sci-Fi applications that are probably very close to every day applications on the next iPad or something (latest simpsons reference).
Now thats not the interesting part, the interesting part is that if you can make a program, that translates for language to language. You can then turn it into a slang to slang, and eventually to individual to individual and what then.
You'll have a individual to individual translator system that automatically translates all your beeps and burps into polite smalltalk.
What will it be called, babelfish?
Say you put a welshman, and a frenchman, both formally educated in english but using local accents, i can guarantee they would have difficulty because of not simply language, but body language too.
What if we map out all the body language forms, their relative positions, all the languages and their relative positions. We could, theoretically, unmask every singularity automatically by default with such a device.
Interesting how this machine woul dhave applications. I point a camera at you and within a few minutes of our dialogue i know everything i could ever want to know about you and its all recorded by topic on a computer that i can carry with me. Hmm. Would make... some radical changes... to the human psyche.
