I think Beauty is an archetypical concept which represents a certain joy of experience and while I think everything naturally has this archetype to be reflected on I think it needs to be 'activated' through perception.

Beauty is simply our perception of "what is wanted". And ugliness is simply our perception of "what is not wanted". If one has no desires, then there is no distinction between wanted and unwanted. Instead it would just be: "what is".

i think there is something genetically hardwired that sees beauty in certain traits. symmetry is a good one and probably has to do with selection for health. sexual selection tho is a great example of when beauty feeds back into physical form in a purely non-survival manner
