Altho helpful, this wikipedia summary of leaving positive impression misses out on some points.

We're contextually based people. We act differently according to context of the situation (e.g., different cultures and sub-cultures have various rules around eye contact and body contact; when you are discussing something serious, you don't necessarily want to smile too much). Best bet is to balance being natural and comfortable, with being a bit of a chameleon. Scope out the energies and tendencies of those around you. This means becoming exposed to different situations in various settings, and learning how to interact with people through observation, experimentation, self-reflection, and modification.

And then again maybe it's not about making impressions but knowing how to connect with people on a genuine level... How to connect with yourself and being able to adjust your behavior or manage your emotions (e.g., soothing anxieties). So once again you go into the inner levels of being (becoming familiar with yourself).
