    You coward! You wussy!
We are not spamming! we are spending quality time at the not-in TIME thread. See this is not even derailing! Tongue
On a side note, Kia and I are going to be on the same plane tomorrow!
yeah and we booked seats next to each other (should I take the rest of the samosas? airplane food is disgusting usually)

the samosas did not only look yummy they ARE!!!

Yikes, I miss checking this thread for a few days and what happens? You folks take advantage and start derailing!

This isn't Treehouse...It's Advanced Studies. Are you just trying to make me work harder?

it wasn't my fault! was peer pressure. Meerie did it.

can we declare this thread exempt? since it is Karan's thread and he doesn't mind and everyone keeps derailing it?

    Ocean!!! how dare you!!! :@
I feel innocent Angel since my last post on that thread was absolutely ON TOPIC... I even did a very time-consuming youtube search for a video that fits the thread title.

I second that motion too, 3D. This thread cannot be derailed, since everything written there was in time and at the time that it was written, it was absolutely timely.

    I disagree.
I thought it is quite cool that this thread is not readable if one is not logged in... gives it that cosy niche-feeling

That's a great idea, Oceania! But I'd have to see if there is actually serious discussion in it. I won't have time to look at it any time soon, but something will have to be done.

I would really appreciate if everyone could help me by looking out for one another and remembering the guidelines. I'm just a volunteer. I'm not a paid employee. The forum belongs to all of us and if the whole community could try to honor the guidelines all the time (not just when the mods are around and they're worried about 'getting in trouble'), that would be very helpful.

you concentrate on Ron Paul! we're not gonna collapse over this! what's important is you focus on the election.

my feeling is we who use the forum, the members, should be heard, not just guidelines. but if you need to focus on the election you should do that. the order of the forum is secondary. the world's not gonna collapse if people spam a thread. but i'm willing to post time related stuff here if it makes you feel better. can we all do this for Monica so she won't stress?

Thanks Oceania! I appreciate it! Heart

We aren't saying you can't be heard. But as a courtesy to everyone, we do have to have some guidelines. There are plenty of other places in the forum for discussing other stuff. The whole point of Advanced Studies was to have a place for serious discussion.

I'm disappointed to see that the clearly stated intentions of this forum were so easily disregarded.

To all who participate on this forum:

Just a quick notice... I need to do some general housecleaning with recent posts in this area since there are no 'advanced studies' topics taking place at this time. Any posts not relevant to the Advanced Studies section will be moved to another area. Some posts may seem to have disappeared, but they are just being temporarily put on hold until we can place them in an alternative location.

No mod "wrath" here, as we do not, and never will, operate with such spirit. To the contrary, this is a friendly request to be considerate of the guidelines for this particular forum, so that topics can remain as close to their original purpose as possible. Please be sure to review the guidelines for this forum, and continue non-related discussions in the Treehouse area.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    The Tao can’t be perceived.
    Smaller than an electron,
    it contains uncountable galaxies.
    If powerful men and women
could remain centered in the Tao,
all things would be in harmony.
The world would become a paradise.
All people would be at peace,
and the law would be written in their hearts.
When you have names and forms,
    know that they are provisional.
    When you have institutions,
know where their functions should end.
    Knowing when to stop,
    you can avoid any danger.
All things end in the Tao
as rivers flow into the sea.

    No one is indispensable.

Only the ONE is ever eternal, in my opinion, and I am but a bubble that springs from that infinite ocean. Moreover, I am a bubble that wants to burst and enter consciously into that ocean again.

    Steve,

First let me say i'm coming to love your forum, thanks.

I'm completely unlearned in contemporary software code or scripts (and happily so). Structure and conceptual structure is my interest in your comments. Forum functionality does interest me a lot. Derailment and diversity does naturally challenge internet forums everywhere.

Here is my proposed solution: Through code magic, do allow users to anonymously block other user posts from their own 'window'..... Mind you i don't suggest offending anyone, nor forcing a permanent, total block.... Rather that 'user-allowed' posts will still include all quotes, even the 'blocked' user quotes. Thus the blocker might ultimately develop a comfort-buffer towards their own blocked user list, personalities who were initially perceived derailing or objectionable.

I suggest this could work like trainer-wheels on bicycles for young children. Until some comfort zones are adjusted. Or perhaps such blocks will greatly enhance the experience of new comers, who wish to focus on specific sorts of posting styles, at first. For harmonizing convenience, perhaps a button on each page will allow users to toggle their blockages on/off, very easily. Such as a child who occasionally realized their own, newly forming tolerance for inertia.

In any event, you may already have much preferred solutions in mind. I will appreciate your good works regardless.

    X7

PS- I'll try to look more closely at this thread as, possibly, a thought or two might synchronize. (slow reader here).

    Knowing others is intelligence;
    knowing yourself is true wisdom.
    Mastering others is strength;
    mastering yourself is true power.
If you realize that you have enough,
    you are truly rich.
If you stay in the center
and embrace death with your whole heart,
    you will endure forever.

    The great Tao flows everywhere.
All things are born from it,
    yet it doesn’t create them.
It pours itself into its work,
    yet it makes no claim.
    It nourishes infinite worlds,
yet it doesn’t hold on to them.
Since it is merged with all things
    and hidden in their hearts,
    it can be called humble.
Since all things vanish into it
    and it alone endures,
    it can be called great.
    It isn’t aware of its greatness;
    thus it is truly great.

She who is centered in the Tao
can go where she wishes, without danger.
    She perceives the universal harmony,
    even amid great pain,
because she has found peace in her heart.
Music or the smell of good cooking
may make people stop and enjoy.
But words that point to the Tao
    seem monotonous and without flavor.
When you look for it, there is nothing to see.
When you listen for it, there is nothing to hear.
When you use it, it is inexhaustible.

If you want to shrink something,
you must first allow it to expand.
If you want to get rid of something,
you must first allow it to flourish.
If you want to take something,
you must first allow it to be given.
This is called the subtle perception
    of the way things are.
    The soft overcomes the hard.
    The slow overcomes the fast.
Let your workings remain a mystery.
    Just show people the results.
