It would seem innapropriate to label acts or deeds as STO or STS as they can be viewed as part of an ever changing landscape.
Never heard the saying "cruel to be kind"?
Polarity is a property of an entity - not the things it does.
When someone stole my property the intention of the thief was certainly to serve self but the results of his acts were later seen as excellent catalyst and for me 'life changing'. The outcome was positive in the long run - so that would be STO.
See what I'm getting at?
