What is Magic?

This is a quote that I wrote down in my notebook on the definition of magic which Q'UO stated,

magic is the use of icons and images to create changes in consciousness at will.

And to understand the dynamics of that reference one must have the same understanding of consciousness implied by the one making that statement.

Any attempt at taking portions of the statement, and giving them your own twist and focus, in ignorance of the whole thought intended only separates you from the truth being stated.

We are always confined to and restricted by our own capacities of comprehension and necessity to discern according to those limitations.

But, even so, any attempt at discernment that becomes perverted by ignorance or deliberate manipulation for reasons of bias or self satisfaction, alters the true message and its vibration in such a way that what one has gathered is no longer that which was offered.

It is much like the King Midas tale, except in this case everything we touch turns into something different than what it is.

King Midas touches an apple and it turns into gold.

You touch an apple and it turns into an orange.

The lesson to be learned is that all of the gold/deceit in the world cannot make one happy when it is the only thing that they are left with.

Magic is far more than the mere ritual and its utensils.

Just as The All is far more than one fragment of it.

'Changes in consciousness at will' is critical to that statement and inability to understand that aspect of the statement disables any further understanding.
